usually people talking about 'rotate' the AVD screen actually mean changing the skin layout to portrait/landscape (Mimic rotation of the tablet). Which can be done by press "7/9" key on number keypad or press ctrl+Fn+F12. In this case, the direction of the display will not change, sometimes the display will be annoying Left-to-right or right-to-left, in stead of natural up-to-bottom. This can be solved by uncheck the auto-rotation in android setting.

However, in some case we would like to see the effect of the gravity sensor. I think this is actually related to the OP's question. Unlike the GPS, there is no GUI tools of Eclipse to do this. The OP is very close to solve the problem. However, the orientation sensor is not the correct one, we need to use the gravity/acceleration sensor to rotate the screen automatically. try following command and observe the display direction with auto-rotation on:

sensor set acceleration 9.77622:0:0
sensor set acceleration 0:9.77622:0
sensor set acceleration 0:0:9.77622

Hi , I tried this. But I didn't find any command like sensor.the only command is sensorservice.Mobile ph I used are samsung s3,s2 and htc

same as @kundan

@Ewoks this is for the telnet commands ran through a terminal or cmd console

Thanks for your answer @iCodeAtAndroid. But I was not able to make what I want to happen. I don't want to use match_parent for width and height of myimg because I don't want it to look pixelated. So since my tablet(600x976) is an mdpi, does that mean that the only images that my tablet use are the images from the drawable-mdpi folder?

First, stop handling configuration changes, then put the 2 fragment layout in layout-sw600dp-land and leave the others as they are. Now Android will determine to use that layout automatically upon rotation.

The problem is that, as long as I know, I really need to handle configuration changes if I want to go fullscreen whenever the user rotates the device while showing image/text. Is there any other way to get this feature? And if I handle the rotation then I have to manually change the layout for the 7 inch tablet.

In other words, I want to handle screen rotation manually for all the cases except for the 7 inch tablet. In this case I just would like to show a different layout. Is it possible to do that?

You are naming the folders in the wrong way. In Android, there is a rule or order in which you name your resource folders. You should provide your qualifier names in that order.

Check this documentation table on providing resources. Your should name your folders in the order provided in the table.(Its better if you read the whole page, because it'll give you a better understanding in providing resources)

Here you should name the folders as

layout-large-port-hdpi
drawable-large-port-hdpi

For preparing the resource folders for tablets, you can use either the screen size attribute or shortest width attribute.

If you use screen size attribute, you can name folders like

layout-large-... (for 7" devices)
layout-xlarge-... (for 10" devices)

I you use shortest width attribute, you can use

layout-sw600dp-... (for 7" devices)
layout-sw720dp-... (for 10" devices)

Remember shortest width attribute works only on devices from 3.2 (API 13).
